Global Action Club

What is Global Action Club?

Global Action was created by a student & a teacher at Shelburne Middle School who had a common interest; they wanted to make their school more globally aware, so they created The Global Action Club.  The 2009-2010 school year is the first year for GAC, and it is already a hit among many students. We started out this year by partnering with a NPO called Invisible Children, raising money for the children in Northern Uganda. We were in a competition called Schools For Schools, where we partnered with a school, St.Mary Lacor (la-chore), and helped raise money so they could provide everything from books to bathrooms for the kids there. We raised a little over 1,000 dollars for Invisible Children. Later in the year there was the earthquake in Haiti, so we decided that we would start supporting Haiti through The American Red Cross. We are currently raising money for the Red Cross. We do everything from concession stands at freshmen basketball games, to bake sales and spaghetti dinners, to putting teachers in jail for one lunch period. Basically The Global Action Club is just trying to help the world any way we can, you wouldn't believe how much we middle schoolers can do when we work together!
